Classic car rally in Kyushu begins

KITAKYUSHU - a rally in which classic cars travel over 1,000 kilometers on public roads in the northern Kyushu region, including Fukuoka and Nagasaki prefectures, began on November 24.

Forty classic cars gathered from across Japan departed from the front of Mojiko Station in southwest Japan's Moji Ward. Visitors who came to watch the Classic Japan Rally 2022 Moji took pictures and enjoyed the collaboration of the Mojiko Retro area and classic cars.

Since 2017 the Yokohama-based event company Impression Co. has held the rally to convey the charm of classic cars and the repair techniques that support the vehicles to children who will lead the next generation, and this is the 11th such rally.

Rare classic cars manufactured between 1926 and 1971 gathered to take part in the event. Masafumi Yamamoto, 49, a self-employed man from Shiga Prefecture, arrived at the station in a car made in the 1950s and said when I drive around feeling the car's smell and sounds, I can tell how it is doing, as if it were part of me. I want to enjoy the great nature of Kyushu and the encounters with people as I drive. The rally will last for four days until Nov. 27, with classic cars running from Mojiko to the Oita Prefecture city of Beppu on the first day. The vehicles will travel from Beppu to the Nagasaki Prefecture City of Unzen on November 25, from Unzen to the Saga Prefecture city of Ureshino on November 26, and return to Mojiko Station after 3 p.m. on the final day.
