Snap’s employees will have to return to office by end of February

A company spokeswoman told Reuters on Monday that 80% of the company's employees will have to return to office by the end of February.

After working remotely for so long, we're excited to bring everyone back together next year with our new 80 20 hybrid model, the company spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

The owner of the Snapchat photo messaging app has asked its employees to be in office four days a week starting in February, according to Bloomberg News.

When COVID 19 hit the United States in 2020, the tech industry was among the first to allow employees to work from home. The extent to which tech companies are embracing permanent remote work is now diverging.

Last month, Uber asked its employees to work from office twice a week.

In August, Snap said it would lay off 20% of its staff and shut down projects to cut costs in a bid to deal with a deteriorating economy.

Despite reducing spending in some areas, the company must now face the consequences of our lower revenue growth and adapt to the market environment, according to a memo by Snap Chief Executive Officer Evan Spiegel.
