Japan to introduce smart glasses at customs offices

Japan will introduce smart glasses and other digital technologies at customs offices in the country to help staff tackle smuggling and increase operational efficiency, the Finance Ministry said.

Smart glasses will be used by customs officials in February next year when checking cargoes to aid effectiveness by sharing images of items in real time with experienced officials at different locations while talking to them.

The initiative is part of the ministry's updated action plan for customs administration, which was released Monday, which focuses on responding to the surge in cargo and issues related to economic security.
