Hong Kong reports 11,985 new COVID-19 cases

PETER PARKS AFP HONG KONG Hong Kong reported 11,981 new COVID 19 cases on Wednesday, as 22 more patients passed away, the city s health authorities said.

The Centre for Health Protection CHP of the Department of Health said the new cases comprised 11,278 local infections and 703 imported cases. The city recorded 9,952 COVID infections on Tuesday, 9,508 on Monday and 9,487 the day before.

The CHP said that 447 were detected at Hong Kong International Airport, 204 during days 1 to 3 of their arrival in Hong Kong and the remaining 52 from day 4 to day 7 of the latest 22 deaths. The city s toll increased to 10,651 during the current 5th wave of infections.

As of Wednesday, the Public Health Laboratory Services Branch had identified 226 cases of sublineage XBB, six of XBD, eight of BA. Seven of the BA are pursuing a bachelor's degree. 4.6, 13 of BF. There were 116 cases of sublineage XBB, 18 of XBD, one of BA. Four of the BF were BF. There were 1.1 detected among local cases.
