Honda to supply Chinese EV battery for 7 years

China's CATL will provide EV batteries for Honda starting in 2024 TOKYO Reuters- Honda Motor Co said on Thursday that Chinese battery giant CATL will supply batteries for its electric vehicles EV in China for seven years.

The Japanese automaker said the Chinese firm would provide 123 GWh of batteries for Honda's e: N Series starting in 2024 through 2030.

The announcement is part of the deepening cooperation between the two companies. They said they would develop battery technologies and research a battery recycling business in 2020.

In 2022, Honda said it would launch its first EV with a CATL battery in China and will expand the partnership with stable EV battery supply in the future.

The automaker is trying to expand its presence in the fast-growing, battery-driven car segment in China, the world's largest auto market.

In November, the company unveiled the second model of its new China-only EV lineup as part of its effort to roll out the e: N Series.

In August Honda said that it would build a new $4.4 billion lithium-ion battery plant with South Korean battery supplier LG Energy Solution Ltd.
