First group of Bulgarian Antarctic scientists arrive at base

The first group of the 31st Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition arrived at the Bulgarian Antarctica Base on Livingston Island, the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute, headed by Professor Hristo Pimpirev, informed in a Facebook post. After a ten-hour voyage, the group disbanded from the Chilean warship Galvarino around midnight. The vessel brought the Bulgarian polar researchers from the neighboring island of King George. In anticipation of the second group, the polar researchers will prepare the Bulgarian Antarctic base on Livingstone Island.

The Bulgarian military research ship St. Cyril and Methodius will make its first journey to Antarctica as part of the Bulgarian Antarctic expedition. It is expected to depart from the port of Varna in mid-December and reach the Bulgarian Antarctic base on Livingston Island 45 days later.
