Work from home allowed for 100 percent of IT employees in SEZ units

Commerce Ministry has permitted 100 percent of its employees to work from home for 100 percent of IT ITeS companies located in special economic zones SEZ units with certain conditions until December 2023. The ministry notification said that a unit may allow its employees to work from home or from any place outside the SEZ. Prior to that, work from home was allowed for a maximum of one year in an SEZ and could be extended to 50 per cent of the total workforce.

According to the letter of approval, SEZ unit owners will have to tell the Development Commissioner of the respective zones and will continue to operate from the premises. If you want to start work from home in the future, you can mail on or before the date of beginning work from home.

The unit will not have to submit a list of employees that are allowed to work from home or from any other place outside the SEZ, but they will have to maintain the list internally. Those who are temporarily incapacitated, those traveling, and those who are offsite are some of the employees allowed to work from home.

The commerce ministry said the unit would have to ensure that the resultant products or services are accounted for by the unit to which the employee is tagged. Employees will have to be provided laptops, desktops, or other equipment for work from home.
