Microsoft employees get unlimited time off

For most of the US employees of Microsoft the story is a bit different, the tech giant is allowing its US employees unlimited time off, starting next week. Kathleen Hogan, Microsoft's chief people officer, said in the mail that it will be called Discretionary Time Off How, when and where we do our jobs. According to the report in The Verge, Hogan said that as we ve transformed our vacation policy to a more flexible model was a natural next step.

The employees who have just joined will not have to wait to accrue the vacation time. Microsoft is now offering 10 corporate holidays, sick time off, mental health time off, leave of absence, and unlimited time off policy. They also offer time away for jury duty or bereavement.

In April, the employee will get a one-time payment for all the unused vacation leaves balance.

This new policy is only available to salaried employees. Hourly workers at Microsoft won't be offered the policy.

Microsoft allowed more of its employees to work from home in 2020. It allowed employees to work from home for up to 50 percent of their working week. Employees who choose to give up their office space had to give up their office space, but the touchdown space at Microsoft offices was still available.

Similar unlimited time off policies are offered on all tech giants, including Netflix, Oracle, Salesforce, and Microsoft-owned LinkedIn.
