Anti-poverty network praises book on carers

The Hanhinkon network, or Anti-poverty Network, which engages in activities to support those in poverty, praised a book by Mainichi Shimbun Publishing Inc. in November 2021, whose title roughly translates to Young Carer: Children who nurse family members. The mainichi Shimbun team has written articles on the reality of children burdened with nursing and other tasks to look after family members and the challenges in supporting them since the spring of 2020. The non-fiction book contains articles, as well as behind-the-scenes material related to the reporting process, such as the thoughts of each reporter. There are plans to publish Chinese translations of the book, both traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese.

The Mainichi Shimbun team received the poverty journalism grand prize 2022 in the ceremony held by Hanhinkon network, headed by lawyer Kenji Utsunomiya, in Tokyo on January 24.
