Hong Kong police officer fatally shoots Filipino man, 2 officers injured

MAO SIQIAN XINHUA A police officer fired three shots, seriously injuring a Filipino man, after two men allegedly attacked two officers responding to a noise complaint on the outlying island of Peng Chau.

He was shot in the shoulder, hand and waist and was reported to be in critical condition after being airlifted to Eastern Hospital in Hong Kong Island. Two officers were injured in the incident, while another Filipino man was arrested.

Hong Kong police said the officer who opened fire had acted in self-defense as he had come under threat, and that he had come under threat.

The police had received noise complaints between 8 pm and 10 pm on Tuesday evening about a group of people who were drinking in a subdivided flat on Peng Chau's Wing On Street.

Two Filipino men were allegedly set on the officers who went there to investigate. One of the officers fired three shots after warnings were ignored.

The police cordoned off the scene. The injured officers were taken to Ruttonjee Hospital.
