China's Spring Festival passenger trips up by over 226 million

The number of railway and road trips reached 50.17 million and 162 million during the seven-day holiday from Jan 21 to 27 while the number of waterway and air passenger trips was about 4.87 million and 9.01 million, respectively.

The Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, is the most important festival in China, as well as a time for family reunions and traveling. The Spring Festival of this year fell on January 22.

The passengers made 2.88 million trips through China's entry and exit frontier inspection stations during the holiday.

The National Immigration Administration NIA said it had a stunning year-on- year increase of 120.5 percent.

Inbound trips exceeded 1.43 million, a rise of 123.3 percent compared with the figure for 2022, while outbound trips increased by 117.8 percent to over 1.44 million, according to the NIA.
