
It has been learned that YAMAGATA - World-renowned industrial designer Kiyoyuki Okuyama was charged last year with driving 128 kph in a 40 kph area in Yamagata City. The car he was driving was a Ferrari Enzo of his own design.
After Okuyama was found by the Yamagata prefectural police on October 1 to have disregarded the speed limit, he was indicted by the Yamagata District Public Prosecutors Office on December 1 for violating the Road Traffic Law.
The 63-year-old designer who goes by Ken Okuyama and hails from the city, allegedly drove the car on the Nishi-Zao Kogen Line that has a speed limit of 40 kph.
Okuyama admitted to the charge during his first trial at the Yamagata District Court on Friday. The defense team asked for a lenient sentence, while the prosecutors demanded four months in prison. A decision will be made on February 10.
Okuyama's car is owned by his design office for display.
