Electric trucks emit 63% less emissions than diesel counterparts

PARIS: Electric trucks produce far fewer emissions than their diesel counterparts over a lifetime, a report in Europe shows Tuesday February 7 that the biggest impact of climate change comes from driving vehicles and not manufacturing them.

The EU's transport sector is the biggest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for about 30 per cent of emissions. Trucks and buses account for about a quarter of the transport emissions.

A fully electric 40 tonne tractor-trailer emits 63 per cent less emissions compared to diesel trucks over 1.3 million km travelled, according to new research from the International Council on Clean Transportation ICCT think tank.

The EU's average electricity grid mix is used to calculate the emissions associated with the extraction of raw materials, construction and maintenance of the vehicle.
