In the past, Zeng Jiajun used to sit at his desk as a product manager at ByteDance in China, generating lists of sensitive terms for content moderators to flag and potentially censor.
ByteDance is the Chinese internet technology company behind the popular social media app TikTok. The Chinese government has played a role in censoring content on the platform, through the Chinese Communist Party's Content Quality Center. When Jiajun realized that what he was being tasked with was detrimental to society, he fled to the U.S. and blew the whistle on TikTok and China's content moderation practices.
According to a statement shared with The Block, he raised $3.1 million from investors including Struck Crypto to build Soul Wallet, a social recovery tool that helps users regain access to their wallets.
Jiajun said that the wallet is the gateway, and is the basis for people to access the decentralised internet.
If we said thatEthereum is the separation of currency and states, it means that states, especially authoritarian states like China, can't shut down a decentralized application because they don't like it.
Jiajun's Soul Wallet received a Layer 2 community grant from the Ethereum FoundationEthereum Foundation. He hopes that the tool he builds will help fight censorship.
Soul Wallet brings important innovations to the Ethereum community, in the form of account abstraction and social recovery, enabling users to recover a lost wallet in a matter of minutes, said Struck Crypto. This core technology innovation brings us one step closer to proliferating non-custodial wallets to the masses, lowering the barriers to accessingEthereum for billions of users. The BlockCrypto, Inc.
