WASHINGTON - US President Joe Biden said on Friday, Mar 17 that Russian President Vladimir Putin has committed war crimes and the International Criminal Court's decision to issue an arrest warrant for him was justified.
The ICC called for Putin's arrest on the charge of unlawful deportation of children and unlawful transfer of people from Ukraine to Russia since Moscow's invasion of its neighbour last year. The United States is not a member of the ICC.
Biden said that it is justified that it refers to the warrant. The question is that it is not recognised by us internationally. I think it makes a strong point. A State Department spokeswoman said in an emailed statement that the United States has concluded that Russian forces have committed war crimes in Ukraine and support accountability for perpetrators of war crimes.
