SHENYANG, China - For the first time since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Chinese President Xi Jinping is visiting his northern neighbor.

Xi will be in Russia for three days, starting with a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Monday.

The two leaders are expected to discuss cooperation in various areas, including the situation in Ukraine, military technology and energy, during the Xi-Putin summit.

The two leaders tried to emphasize the importance of Beijing-Moscow relations to the general public of the other country.

According to China s state-owned Xinhua News Agency, Xi stated that the Ukrainian situation was therefore: China has always supported an objective and impartial position based on the merits of the issue and actively promoted peace talks. Xi stated that he intends to play a constructive role in a political solution to the issue.

He said that as long as the parties embrace the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, and pursue equal-footed, rational and results-oriented dialogue and consultation, they will find a reasonable way to solve the crisis.

Xi emphasized the need to respect the legitimate security concerns of all countries, despite the fact that Russia claims that the eastward expansion of NATO North Atlantic Treaty Organization is a security threat. Putin expressed hope for China's role in the Ukraine situation in his article.

Putin wrote to China by its full name, the People's Republic of China, that they appreciated the well-balanced stance on the events in Ukraine adopted by the PRC.
