The latest regulatory changes in the cannabis space

As the Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference returns to Miami April 11 -- 12, bringing together top CEOs, investors, advocates, and politicians, let's review the latest regulatory changes in the space.

A bill that would legalize marijuana in Minnesota was introduced before the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee.

Marijuana Moment reported that Senator Lindsey Port D passed a total of 10 Senate committees. We have a chance to undo some of the harm done by prohibition and create a system of regulation that works for Minnesota consumers and businesses while ensuring an opportunity in this new market for communities that have been most affected by prohibition, Port said.

A companion version sponsored by Rep. Zack Stephenson D would allow 21 year-olds to purchase and use recreational marijuana. The measure received the approval of the House Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee.

The Texas Supreme Court ruled on May 6 that a measure to decriminalize small amounts of cannabis within city limits will be on the May 6 ballot, according to a local media news outlet.

If adopted, the proposed Justice Policy' would amend the city charter, purportedly to prohibit local enforcement of certain state laws related to marijuana possession, reads the state Supreme Court ruling.

The CCD will give ample notice to the labs and licensees before the effective date when the Division decides the time in which sample collection will be conducted by cannabis testing labs. Barry Dungan, CEO of the Albuquerque-based cannabis testing lab Rio Grande Analytics, said there isn't enough infrastructure in place for this type of sampling.

If a new marijuana bill passes in the state, cannabis vendors in Carson City, Las Vegas could be assured of their spot at local events. The bill allows vendors to sell marijuana at certain events. They would need to apply for licenses from the state cannabis board and local jurisdictions to do this.

They would only be allowed to resell products they purchased from dispensaries.

The Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference will be held at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel in Florida on April 11 -- 12, the most successful cannabis business event in the world. This is the place where money is raised, M&A start, and companies meet investors and key partners don't miss out.
