UN calls for urgent action on water use ahead of major summit

The U.N. warned in a report released hours ahead of a major summit on the issue that water is increasingly at risk due to vampiric overconsumption and overdevelopment.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that the world is on a dangerous path because of the unsustainable use of water, pollution and unchecked global warming that are draining humanity's lifeblood.

The UN Water Conference is co-hosted by the governments of Tajikistan and the Netherlands and will gather some 6,500 participants, including a hundred ministers and a dozen heads of state and government Wednesday through Friday in New York.
