Three people familiar with the plans said that Virgin Orbit's Virgin Orbit is planning to return a small group of employees from a company-wide furlough to work on rocket upgrades.
The number of employees due to return to work was not immediately clear.
The partial resumption of Virgin Orbit was announced Tuesday night by the Virgin Orbit chief executive Dan Hart in an email to employees, according to the three people who requested anonymity to discuss internal company matters.
One of the sources said that discussions over Virgin Orbit's investment plan to stave off bankruptcy were ongoing.
Virgin Orbit said in a statement that it was aiming for an incremental resumption of operations to support its next launch.
Our team's first step will begin Thursday, when we plan to return a subset of our team to focus on critical areas for our next mission, the company said.
