The painting by Jackson Pollock found in Bulgaria has a dedication on the back thought to have been written by the artist himself, to Hollywood star Lauren Bacall from the first half of the 20th century on the occasion of her birthday in 1949. This information was revealed at a briefing by the prosecutor's office today.
If the painting is authenticated, that means it was originally a personal gift from Pollock to Bacall. According to the public service TV BNT, the painting was once part of the collection of Romanian communist dictator Nicolae Ceau escu. The Sofia Deputy prosecutor Desislava Petrova stated that the painting found its way into Bulgaria was yet to be investigated. The prosecutor's office requested more authentication, even though two have already been carried out indicating that the painting technique and paint colors match the ones from other works by Jackson Pollock.
