China approves its first home-grown mRNA vaccine against COVID

China has approved its first domestically developed messenger RNA vaccine against COVID 19, a major achievement in a country that has refused to use Western COVID 19 shots to support domestic research, according to CSPC Pharmaceutical Group.

Since early 2020, China has been racing to develop vaccines using the mRNA technology, with its home-grown vaccines being seen as less effective than the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA shots.

The sales outlook for the newly approved vaccine has been moderate as infections have fallen sharply across China since it dropped its zero-COVID curbs in December.
