Sensex gains 139 points, Nifty extends gains for second day

The indices of the Benchmark extended gains for the second straight session on Wednesday amid a choppy trading session. The gains were capped ahead of the US FOMC policy outcome, which kept the traders on the tenterhooks. Sensex added 139.91 points, or 0.24 per cent, to 58,214, or 139.91 points. 59, while Nifty 50 gained 44.40 points, or 0.26 per cent, to 17,151. Broader markets were mixed as the BSE smallcap index rose by half a per cent, while the BSE midcap index was slightly higher at the close. India VIX fell by about 2 per cent to 14.80 level at the end of the session.
