The latest offering of the Wizarding World, Hogwarts Legacy Warner Bros. Games, NASDAQ: WBD, has dominated February's video game sales charts, according to Mat Piscatella, an industry analyst and executive director of Circana.
The game has become the best-selling title of the month on Sony Group's SONY PlayStation, Microsoft Corp's MSFT Xbox, and Valve's Steam, surpassing other popular titles such as Activision Blizzard's ATVI Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and Electronic Arts Inc's EA Dead Space remake, Madden NFL 23 and FIFA 23. Hogwarts Legacy has become a year-to-date bestseller. This impressive feat comes on the back of the game's global launch in mid-February, where it sold over 12 million copies in just two weeks despite controversy before its release.
The PS 5 contributed significantly to Hogwarts Legacy's sensation, accounting for a significant portion of February's hardware spending and making it the best-selling console game of the month.
The Last of Us games, published by Sony and developed by Naughty Dog, saw a surge in sales last month with The Last of Us: Part 1 climbing from 11th to 6th place on the charts, and The Last of Us: Part 2 moving from 41st to 18th place. Both games were still ahead in overall sales behind Hogwarts Legacy.
This growth in sales probably has to do with the success of HBO, which has been highly rated by audience members and critics and was watched by more than 4.7 million viewers on the night of its release.
