PHOTO AFP HONG KONG The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government rejected findings in a new US government report on the implementation of the improved electoral system and National Security Law, rule of law and human rights situation in Hong Kong on Saturday.

A HKSAR government spokesman said that the government strongly disapproved of the unfounded and fact-twisting remarks and the smears in the so-called 2023 Hong Kong Policy Act Report.

The US made fact-twisting remarks about Hong Kong, with politics overruling the rule of law, and interfered in Hong Kong affairs, which are China's internal affairs, according to the so-called annual report.

The US's attempt to undermine the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong will expose its own weakness and arguments and will be doomed to fail, the spokesman said.

The spokesman said that the HKSAR government remains committed to governing the city in compliance with the law, upholds the rights and freedoms enjoyed by the Hong Kong people as protected under the law and reaffirms its commitment to 'one country, two systems'' under the law.

The government urged Washington to immediately stop acting against international law and basic norms of international relations, and interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs at large.
