OSAKA - A movie starring Nintendo's favorite Super Mario has won a worldwide box office record for an animated film. Nintendo Representative Director and Fellow Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of the mustached character, told Nikkei Asia that Nintendo will definitely produce more video content. The company is now considering itself as a talent agent for its characters and intends to exploit its varied intellectual property to pursue further expansion.

The Super Mario Bros. MovieSuper Mario Bros. Movie was released on April 5 in the US and other overseas markets, ahead of its release in Japan on April 28. Box Office Mojo reported that it earned $378 million over its first five days worldwide, up from $358.4 million set by Walt Disney's Frozen 2, which was released in 2019. By April 17 the box office revenues had topped $700 million.
