China eases COVID-19 antigen test rules for incoming arrivals

BEIJING: China's foreign ministry said on Tuesday that all inbound travelers will only need to show COVID-19 antigen test results taken within 48 hours before boarding flights starting Saturday.

At present, China requires inbound travelers from certain nations to take PCR tests before entering the country, such as the United States, South Korea and Japan.

Tests for passengers from different countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Cambodia and New Zealand, were already eased in March.

The Chinese embassy in Singapore said the rules were relaxed in accordance with the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic and to facilitate people-to-people exchanges after three years of strict COVID-19 restrictions.

About a month later, China banned quarantine precautions for overseas arrivals, requiring travelers to take a PCR test 48 hours before entering China.
