Microsoft has opened its first cloud data processing center in Poland, Central and Eastern Europe, the company said on Wednesday.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who chairs the conference, said he wanted Poland to be in the forefront of countries developing cloud technology.

We want Poland to be in the world avant-garde of countries that are developing cloud technology, Mr Morawiecki said in a speech at the European Economic Congress in Katowice.

Poland's digitalisation minister, Janusz Cieszynski, said the government was working on a 700 - million loan programme for enterprises ready for cloud transformation.

The US ambassador to Poland, Mark Brzezinski, said the cloud centre project shows how important the Polish market is for the private sector. It was also a sign of the deep relations between the US and Poland, he said.

Microsoft's president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Ralph Haupter, said the centre would help ensure cybersecurity in Poland and boost innovation in the Polish enterprise sector.
