The Little Mermaid beats The Fast and Furious in Memorial Day

The Little Mermaid made filmgoers want to be under the sea on Memorial Day weekend.

It's the fifth biggest Memorial Day weekend ever, and it ain't the first time it's been held.

It defeats Fast X in the top spot. Vin Diesel's latest film, The Fast And Furious, has lagged behind more recent series, bringing in US $23 million domestically for a two-week total of US $108 million for Universal Pictures.

In its fourth weekend, Marvel and Disney's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 made an estimated $20,000 in North America to take third place. It has now made $299 million domestically.

Fourth came to Universal's film, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which remains at a new level in its eighth weekend. Now available to rent on VOD, it still earned $6.3 million in theaters. The year's biggest earners were Mario and Luigi, who rake in an average of $559 million.

The Machine, a action comedy starring stand-up comedian Bert Kreischer, finished fifth with $4.9 million domestically. And About My Father, the broad comedy that stars stand-up Sebastian Maniscalco and Robert De Niro, was sixth with US $4.3 million.
