Japan's current account surplus rises 76.3% to $13.6 billion in April

Japan's current account surplus rose 76.3% from a year earlier to 1.90 trillion $13.6 billion in April, lifted by a lower trade deficit due to a drop in crude oil prices.

The current account balance, one of the world's biggest gauges of international trade, remained in the black for the third consecutive month, with the goods trade deficit down 83.5% to 113.1 billion, the ministry said in a statement.

Imports dipped to 8.34 trillion from a year earlier, after the cost of crude oil dropped 22.6% to $83.42 per barrel, the ministry said. The first time imports have dropped in two years and three months.
