Minister of Canton Sarajevo seeks faster path to medical examinations

Minister Haris Vranic, Minister of Health of Canton Sarajevo, said the Ministry of HealthMinistry of Health sent a notice to all health institutions in CS about the way to facilitate the process of examination by medical specialists.

Now, he notes, the frustration of patients who are compelled by administrative procedures when issuing referrals for specialist examinations has increased.

The patient, referred to by his family medicine doctor, frequently requires additional examinations from other specialists from different medical fields, which frequently require additional examinations by his family medicine doctor.

According to the current practice, there was no unnecessary loss of time for patients, extendeddiagnosis time, and delay in the beginning of their treatment.

Because of the above, the ministry of health contacted all health institutions and the Health Insurance Institute of the CS and proposed that the medical specialist doctor who first examines the patient and based on his findings recommends an examination with another specialist, issue an electronic referral for that recommended examination, without the patient returning to his family practice doctor.

The time for diagnosis and treatment is significantly shortened.

By using this new approach, every patient visit to a specialist will be recorded in the health information system, along with the findings. The doctor of family medicine will understand the patient's movements, and the time of diagnosis and the start of treatment will be significantly shortened.

The ministry acknowledges the importance of facilitating access to quality healthcare for all patients. By improving patient experience, reducing administrative obstacles and guaranteeing faster path to specialist examinations, we aim to improve the patient experience.

We invite all healthcare institutions to implement the necessary changes in accordance with the new guidelines, Mr Vranic said on Facebook.
