Fintech head of Goldman Sachs fintech unit takes leave

The Goldman Sachs Investor DayGoldman Sachs Investor Day at Goldman Sachs headquarters in New York.

The head of Goldman Sachs Group Inc's fintech unit called Platform Solutions, Stephanie Cohen, is taking a leave of absence for family reasons, she said in a memo to staff seen by Reuters.

My family has faced some challenges in the past year, Cohen said in a prepared statement. Although I've been able to balance my crucial work at home with my life at home, I have made the decision to spend time away from work to devote more time to my family, he said. The Bank's treasurer, Philip Berlinski, and Ericka Leslie, its chief administrative officer, will handle Cohen's responsibilities in her absence.

The only female executive to manage one of Goldman's three main business groups is Cohen, who has served as chief executive. She is a co-head of the consumer and wealth management division, and has served as a chief strategy officer in the investment banking division.

In 1999, Cohen joined Goldman Sachs as an analyst, and in 2008 was appointed managing director and partner in 2014.

Last year, Goldman created the Platform Solutions unit to maintain its credit card relationships, transaction banking and GreenSky, a platform for home improvement loans that it acquired for $2.2 billion in late 2021.

Goldman Sachs will conduct a sale process for GreenSky and may take a writedown on the $500 million of goodwill, or the premium it paid above the assets' book value, Goldman's president and chief operating officer, John Waldron, told investors last week.
