Nevada lawmakers approved a comprehensive marijuana reform bill that seeks to increase possession limits and eliminate obstacles in the industry.
Abby Kaufmann, the chairwoman of the chamber of cannabis, is confident the marijuana reform bill will receive the governor's signature. In the unlikely event of a veto, the bill has garnered bipartisan support, increasing the possibility of a successful veto override, she said.
Sponsored by Sen. Dallas Harris D, the cannabis omnibus bill passed the Assembly by a vote of 28-14 Tuesday, Marijuana Moment reported.
Under the law, if signed into law, bill SB 277 would more than double the personal possession limit from one ounce to 2.5 ounces and allow for the possession of larger quantities of marijuana concentrates.
The proposed legislation eliminates the requirement for separate licenses for medical and recreational retailers, streamlining the licensing process.
It also allows the Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board to issue marijuana business licenses to individuals with prior felony convictions, provided that public health and safety are not violated.
The state Cannabis Advisory Commission proposed a study examining the potential effects of removing marijuana from both the federal Controlled Substances Act and the Uniform Controlled Substances Act.
It calls for regulatory authorities to consider the environmental effects of industry rule changes.
