Tokyo police find gas at site of blast

On July 4 police and fire department police and fire department officers investigate a building in the Shinbashi district of Tokyo, where an explosion happened the previous day. Tabito Fukutomi, a restaurant manager who was seriously injured in an explosion at a building in Tokyo s Shinbashi district, said his business didn t use gas for cooking.

Police and fire officers investigated the scene of the blast on July 4 and believe leaked gas that filled the building was the cause of the explosion.

The manager of his 50s said he noticed a smell like gas or sewage and that the explosion happened when he lit a cigarette.

The explosion smashed through the restaurant and led to a fire on the afternoon of July 3 in Minato ward, Japan's Minato district.

The restaurant's female employee and two male passers-by were injured and five cars were damaged.

A man who was working at another restaurant on the ground floor of the building said he could smell gas 100 meters away on his way to work and the odor got stronger as he neared the site.
