5G services to be rolled out in India in next few weeks

The 5 G technology, which was launched by PM Narendra Modi on October 1, is expected to reach its customers in select cities in the next few weeks. High-speed internet, better download speed and greater spectrum efficiency are expected to be provided by the much-discussed technology. The plans for 5 G availability were shared by telecom majors like Vodafone Idea, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio during the launch on Saturday. With the availability of 5 G services, India will have 5 G services like a select set of countries, like the US, Korea, UK, Japan, China, and nations across Europe.

On October 1, Ashwini Vaishnaw said that over 200 cities in India will get access to 5 G in the coming six months. During the conference, RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani said that Jio 5 G will reach everyone by December 2023.

By March 2024, it will cover the whole country.

Vodafone-Idea has decided to roll out 5 G services in the future, though the exact date of launch has not been shared yet.

In the next 2 years BSNL plans to offer 5 G to 80 % of Indians. Starting August, Vaishnaw said that BSNL will provide 5 G services next year.

As per plans, Reliance Jio will provide 5 G services to four major cities, including Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai. Airtel is offering 5 G services in 8 cities - Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Bangalore, Gurugram, Chennai, and a few others.

Vodafone Idea and BSNL are yet to share details about the cities they would provide their network.

A 4 G SIM can work in 5 G phones, per operators. According to reports, Airtel said that existing SIMs would work on 5 G phones. The transition to the ultra-speed network won't need any change in the SIM card or any hardware input. Users should have 5 G-enabled phones, according to the company.

Jio hasn't declared any changes to the SIM card. Plans are afoot to launch its 5 G phone by the end of the year.

Other operators haven't shared their plans yet.

Airtel said 5 G services will be available at existing 4 G rates. The pricing will be tweaked after 5 G services are launched in select cities.

Jio hasn't shared its pricing plan yet, but company officials have said that Jio 5 G services will be affordable and available to all.
