Aptos Labs and Universal Pictures team up for The Exorcist

Aptos Labs is collaborating with Universal Pictures to create a digital experience for the upcoming release of The Exorcist: Believer.

The movie, which will debut on Oct. 6th, will offer a chance for horror fans to immerse themselves in a digital fan experience that's powered by the Aptos blockchain.

Leslie Odom Jr.'s film depicts the story of Victor Fielding, played by Leslie Odom Jr., who becomes obsessed with his daughter Angela, played by Lidya Jewett, and her friend Katherine, played by Olivia O'Neill, disappearing into the woods and returning three days later without memory of what happened.

Those who buy a ticket through Fandango will receive a redemption code for the digital experience, which they will be able to collect exclusive artwork, watch behind-the-scenes footage, and use an exorcist-themed AR filter. Users can also enter to win various prizes.

The vice president of technology at Universal Pictures, Greg Reed, said in a statement.

Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching established Aptos Labs in 2021, who had previously worked at Meta's crypto payments network Diem, formerly Libra. The Aptos blockchain was built with a Meta-designed programming language called Move, designed to enhance security and help programmers avoid common mistakes.

The partnership with Universal is Aptos Labs' second foray into Hollywood. The company collaborated with NBCUniversal to release the Nicolas Cage Dracula movie Renfield in September last year. In a series of photos taken from the movie, Aptos helped create an online game where users had to find insects in a series of photos based on the movie's scenes.

Mo Shaikh, CEO of Aptos Labs, said the company's CEO and cofounder was not available for comment.
