Polygon announces 3 new proposals for its revamped polygon 2.0 platform

Polygon has released the first set of improvement suggestions for its revamped polygon 2.0 platform.

On Sept. 13 the three new polygon Improvement Proposals focus on the token migration from MATIC to POL, plus the launch of polygon's new staking layer.

The PIPs establish four core steps, including introducing the token migration, making POL the native gas token for polygon networks, establishing POL as the staking token of polygon's networks, and launching the polygon 2.0 staking layer.

Polygon said it could roll out phase 0 in Q4 of this year if the community demands minimal changes to the proposals.

Polygon told Reuters he would be happy to be back in the industry if he had a chance to speak at a conference next week.

CryptoGecko says polygon's MATIC token is up nearly 2% today, but down 4% over the past week.

In June, Polygon announced its plans for its 2.0 transformation, calling for the integration of Polygon's multiple scaling solutions into a multi-chain ecosystem of interconnected networks leveraging zero-knowledge technology.

The ecosystem of polygon is currently encompassing the PoS Chain, zkEVM, Nightfall, and Miden networks. The PoS Chain was launched in 2017 before rebranding in 2021, and is Polygon's largest network with a net worth of $792 million.

The PoS Chain lags in technical capabilities compared to Polygon's EZKEVM, which was launched in March of this year. The 2.0 roadmap aims to combine the PoS Chain and zkEVM, combining the impressive TVL of PoS Chain with the technical capabilities of zkEVM.

In addition, Polygon introduced Nightfall, a hybrid optimistic-zK rollup developed by Ernst & Young in partnership with Polygon last year. In April 2022, polygon introduced Supernets, enabling teams to launch bespoke layer 3 appchains while utilizing Polygon's staking layer for security. The Chain Development Kit by Polygon was launched last month, enabling users to launch their own Layer 2s based on Polygon's tech.
