Hackers hit Mixin Network, major cryptocurrency hack

Mixin Network, a Hong Kong-based digital wallet company, suspended deposits and withdrawals after it was attacked by hackers on Sept. 23.

The target was the database of cloud service provider Mixin, without identifying the attackers. It contacted Google and the blockchain security company, the @SlowMist_Team, to help in the investigation.

To bring speed and scalability to blockchain, Mixin Network is an open-source and decentralized platform, according to the company's website.

This could be one of the biggest hacks of this year, according to the website DefiLlama, which tracks crypto hacks. The losses before the Mixin hack were $7.1 billion in 2023, DefiLlama said. In January, hackers were able to take over $3.2 billion in 60 hacks.
