The BRICK token, a cryptocurrency reward given within Reddit's Fortnite community, experienced a significant price surge of 131% on Wednesday. However, its value has since cooled, currently trading at around $0.125, still representing a 35% increase over the past 24 hours. The sudden fluctuations in price are likely due to limited liquidity and trading activities by users. With a market cap of only $15.6 million and a daily trading volume of just over $1 million, most of the trading occurs on Kraken. CoinGecko estimates that even a small transaction on Kraken's BRICK/USD pair can impact the price by 2%. The tokens were initially launched on an Ethereum testnet and were challenging to transact, but resourceful traders found ways to exchange them for other tokens and convert them into cash. Although the tokens have features for their respective subreddits, such as unlocking functionalities and participating in governance polls, the Community Points program has yet to expand to other communities. Additionally, Reddit's MOON token also experienced a 10% surge in the last 24 hours to $0.217, with a trading volume of about $610,000. Both BRICK and MOON reached their all-time high prices this summer, particularly after Kraken started supporting them.
