Musk Refuses SEC's Subpoena, Citing Harassment and Biographical Review

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a subpoena to Elon Musk in May 2023, demanding his testimony at the SEC office in San Francisco. Initially agreeing to appear last month, Musk later raised objections and informed the SEC that he would not attend the deposition. The SEC proposed alternative locations and dates, but Musk declined, claiming that the SEC was harassing him and requiring time for his counsel to review relevant information from a recently published biography. Alex Spiro, Musk's attorney, expressed frustration with the ongoing investigation and defended Musk's decision to refuse the SEC's demands. The SEC has been involved in a longstanding conflict with Musk since his 2018 tweet about potentially taking Tesla private with secured funding.
