Gadkari Calls for Industry-Led Skill Development to Bridge Workforce Gap

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has urged Indian industries to take the initiative in establishing skill development institutes to address the critical shortage of skilled manpower in the country. Addressing the CII-Industry Academia Conclave in Nagpur, Gadkari emphasized the need for closer collaboration between industry and academia to bridge the gap between education and employability.

He highlighted the disconnect between the skills possessed by graduates and the actual requirements of industries, leading to unemployment among educated individuals. To address this, Gadkari proposed that industries establish their own skill development centers, engineering colleges, and polytechnic institutes. This would allow for a more practical and industry-oriented education, equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to be readily employable.

The minister acknowledged the potential of industries in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, specifically mentioning the Reliance-Dassault plant in Nagpur. He announced that within two years, this plant will begin exporting Rafale jets globally. Additionally, the plant will also manufacture the Falcon business jet entirely.

Gadkari concluded by emphasizing the importance of wealth creation in agriculture and tribal belts for overall development. He believes that by empowering these sectors, India can achieve sustainable and inclusive growth.
