Tasmanian Man Arrested at Hobart Airport with 28 Grams of Ice Concealed in Lego Toys

A man from southern Tasmania has been charged with drug trafficking after allegedly being found with 28 grams of ice at Hobart Airport. Some of the drugs were reportedly concealed within Lego toys.

The 40-year-old man, from Molesworth, arrived in Hobart on a flight from Melbourne on Saturday night. He was searched by members of Taskforce Saturate after disembarking.

Police allege they found 28 grams of methylamphetamine (ice) concealed on the man and within toys packed in his luggage. The man was also wanted for three outstanding fail to appear warrants.

He appeared in an out-of-hours court session on Sunday and was remanded in custody to appear at a later date.

Sergeant Greg Rogers said the drugs seized had the potential to cause "significant harm" in the community.

"The methylamphetamine seized could have resulted in 280 individual street deals," he said.

"Tasmania Police will continue to target offenders who attempt to import illicit substances into Tasmania by conducting both targeted and random screening of persons entering the state by sea and airports.
