Delhi Election Commission Partners with Rapido to Offer Free Rides Home for Voters

In a novel initiative to encourage voter participation, the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi has partnered with bike taxi company Rapido to offer free rides home for voters on polling day, May 25th.

This collaboration aims to address transportation barriers and make voting more accessible for all citizens. Voters can conveniently book a complimentary bike ride through the Rapido app after casting their vote. A rider will pick them up from the polling station and safely drop them at their home.

"With the availability of free bike rides on the polling day, we aim to ensure ease of voting experience and to encourage citizens to exercise their vote and contribute to the democratic process," said P. Krishnamurthy, Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi. "Every vote counts and it is essential to ensure that every eligible voter can cast their vote without hindrance."

Rapido has a large pool of drivers and subscribers in Delhi, ensuring availability of rides across the city. The company will facilitate and ensure the presence of bike riders at designated polling booths.

This initiative comes as Delhi prepares for the Lok Sabha elections, with 367 candidates initially filing nominations. After scrutiny, 232 nominations were accepted, while 129 were rejected. Six candidates withdrew, leaving 162 contestants in the race.
