Fakiragram Railway Station to Undergo Major Upgrade with Rs. 34.60 Crore Investment

Fakiragram Railway Station to Receive Major Upgrade

The Indian government has allocated Rs. 10,369 crore in the interim Budget 2024-25 for railway infrastructure projects in the Northeast, including Assam. As part of this initiative, 60 stations in the Northeast are being redeveloped with world-class amenities under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).

One of the stations receiving a significant facelift is Fakiragram railway station in Assam. The project, costing Rs. 34.60 crore, will provide modern amenities and facilities to passengers.

The existing station building will be extended and improved, with facilities like retiring rooms and waiting rooms equipped with the latest amenities. Divyangjan-friendly ramps and toilet facilities will be provided, along with modern amenities like lifts and a 5-meter-wide Foot Over Bridge.

Separate toilet blocks for male and female passengers will be constructed, and parking facilities will be improved with beautification of the circulating area. All platforms will be provided with shelter and resurfaced with marble stone or tiles for ease of movement. Entry and exit paths will be developed, offering improved accessibility for passengers.

Tenders for all the above works have been awarded, and the foundation work for the new station building has already begun. Work is also in progress for other passenger amenities like installation of Coach Guidance Boards, Train Information Display Systems, extension of platforms, and easy access water booths for Divyangjan.

The upgrade of Fakiragram railway station is expected to create new avenues for employment, business opportunities, and ease of travel. It will also provide a significant boost to tourism for passengers in the city and nearby areas.
