President Murmu Embarks on Three-Nation Visit to Fiji, New Zealand, and Timor-Leste

President Droupadi Murmu embarked on a three-day visit to Fiji, New Zealand, and Timor-Leste on August 4th, 2023. This visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties and advance India's Act East Policy.

President Murmu's first stop is Fiji, where she will undertake a state visit on August 5th and 6th. This marks the first-ever visit by an Indian Head of State to Fiji. During her visit, she will hold bilateral meetings with President Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. She is also scheduled to address the Fijian Parliament and interact with the Indian diaspora in Fiji.

From August 7th to 9th, President Murmu will visit New Zealand at the invitation of Governor General Cindy Kiro. During this state visit, she will hold a bilateral meeting with Kiro and meet Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. Additionally, she will address an education conference and interact with the Indian community.

President Murmu will conclude her visit in Timor-Leste on August 10th, marking the first head-of-state-level visit from India to the country. She will hold engagements with President Jose Ramos-Horta and Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao.

This three-nation visit underscores the importance India attaches to its bilateral relations with these countries and reflects a strong focus on the Act East Policy, which was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014. The visit is expected to further strengthen ties between India and Pacific nations and contribute to the region's development and prosperity.
