Kyushu Leads Japan's 11th COVID-19 Wave as Infections Surge in Summer Months

Japan's Southwestern Prefectures Leading 11th Wave of COVID-19 Infections

Japan's southwestern prefectures are experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases, leading the country's 11th wave of infections. The number of patients nationwide has risen for 11 consecutive weeks, with five prefectures on the southwestern main island of Kyushu reporting the highest number of patients per medical institution.

Experts believe the earlier arrival of summer in Kyushu may be contributing to the increased infections. During the summer months, people tend to stay in air-conditioned rooms and take off their masks, creating a more favorable environment for the virus to spread.

This trend is similar to what was observed last year, when Kyushu prefectures also reported a higher number of cases compared to other parts of Japan. Medical experts are urging people to take basic anti-infection measures such as washing hands, wearing masks, and ventilating rooms to help curb the spread of the virus.

It is important to note that other infectious diseases, such as streptococcal pharyngitis and hand-foot-and-mouth disease, are also spreading in Kyushu and elsewhere. Therefore, it is crucial to maintain good hygiene practices to protect yourself from various infections.
