Haryana Cabinet approves amendments in Mukhya Mantri Shehri Awas Yojana policy

The Haryana Cabinet, presided over by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, has given the green light to significant changes in the policy of 'Mukhya Mantri Shehri Awas Yojana' (MMSAY) aimed at catering to the housing needs of urban families with an annual income of up to Rs 1.80 lakhs as validated by the Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP).

One of the key amendments in the revised policy is the extension of the time frame for beneficiaries who have been allocated 1 Marla (30 sq. yards) plots to make payments. Previously, the period for depositing the allotment amount of Rs 10,000 was only one month, but now beneficiaries have two months to make this payment. Additionally, the time frame for the remaining amount of Rs 80,000 has been extended fivefold, allowing beneficiaries to pay monthly installments over three years after the issuance of the Letter of Intent (LoI).

Furthermore, the amended policy now includes provisions for refunds and the transfer of allotments in case of a beneficiary's demise. Beneficiaries have the option to request a refund of the principal amount without penalties prior to taking possession. In the unfortunate event of a beneficiary's death, the allotment can be transferred to their legal heir upon submission of the death certificate and a no-objection certificate from other legal heirs if applicable.

It is noteworthy that the Housing Department has allocated 1 Marla (30 sq. yards) plots at the price of Rs 1 lakh to 15,250 beneficiaries falling into categories such as Ghumantu Jati, widows, Scheduled Castes, and others across 14 locations in Haryana. These amendments are poised to offer increased financial flexibility and security to the recipients of the Mukhya Mantri Shehri Awas Yojana (MMSAY), underlining the government's dedication to enhancing the living conditions of the economically disadvantaged sections of society.
