South Australia's ambulance ramping crisis continues, leaving patients uncovered.
56 ambulances were ramped outside public hospitals on Wednesday, leaving 23 emergency cases in the community "uncovered," according to the Ambulance Employees Association (AEA).
The AEA is pleading for an extension of the code yellow at the state's public hospitals, which SA Health says will end on Friday after being in place for more than two months.
"The entire hospital network was absolutely crippled," said AEA general secretary Leah Watkins. "We're heading back into the territory of very long delays to emergency cases."
The health department's chief executive officer, Dr Robyn Lawrence, said the code yellow will end on Friday as planned.
"Clinicians continue to triage patients appropriately and those needing the most urgent care are always treated first," she said in a statement.
