A designated court in Ahmedabad has sentenced Kishore Marotirao Ambavale, the then Superintendent of Central Excise, to three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh for accepting a bribe of Rs 14,500.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered a case against Ambavale in February 2013 based on a complaint alleging that he demanded illegal gratification from a private company in exchange for processing their monthly returns and export documents. The accused was arrested on February 16, 2013, after accepting the bribe.
Following an investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Ambavale in September 2013. After a trial, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
