An Exhibition in Veliko Tarnovo
The Museum of the Bulgarian Revival and Constituent Assembly in Veliko Tarnovo is currently hosting an exhibition titled "The Unification – Events and Personalities." This exhibition commemorates the 139th anniversary of the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia, a pivotal moment in Bulgarian history.
The exhibition features original documents and photographs from the collections of the National Library "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" and the Veliko Tarnovo Library "Petko R. Slaveykov." These documents and photographs provide a glimpse into the events and personalities that shaped this historic act.
Dr. Ruslan Ivanov, from the National Library, explains that the exhibition focuses on "personalities who took an active part in the preparation and implementation of this act and some documents that reflect and finalize it." Many of these documents and photographs are being displayed for the first time, offering a unique perspective on this important event.
Among the highlights of the exhibition are Prince Alexander I Battenberg's telegram to Dr. Georgi Stranski, requesting a deputation be sent to Tarnovo to deliver the act of proclaiming the Unification. Additionally, visitors can see Prince Alexander I Battenberg's Decree No. 1 on taking over the government of Eastern Rumelia and his manifesto on the proclamation of the Unification.
The exhibition also features photographs of key figures involved in the Unification, including Zahari Stoyanov, Alexander Bogoridi, Gavril Krastevich, Prodan Tishkov - Chardafon, Sava Mutkurov, Raicho Nikolov, and members of the Bulgarian Secret Central Revolutionary Committee and the Unity Committee.
Through these documents, photographs, and人物, the exhibition provides a comprehensive look at the Unification of Bulgaria, a significant event that continues to resonate in Bulgarian history and identity.
