The Sleep Lab capsule hotel near Shinagawa Station in Tokyo, operated by Nine Hours, has introduced innovative technology to gather detailed information about guests' sleep patterns and quality. Equipped with directional microphones and infrared cameras, the hotel's capsules aim to record various sleep metrics such as heart rates, breathing frequencies, snoring volume, and other details to offer a comprehensive analysis of each guest's slumber.
NTT Data Japan Corp., in collaboration with sleep analysis service supplier Nine Hours Inc., has launched this project to not only enhance the sleep experience for guests but also to provide valuable data for companies looking to develop products aimed at improving sleep quality. The collected data will be instrumental in aiding food and drink manufacturers, as well as bedclothes producers, in creating more effective sleep-related items. Guests are encouraged to participate in this unique experience, where they can benefit from personalized sleep reports and also have the opportunity to provide feedback on specialized bedclothes and food items designed to promote better sleep.
The Sleep Lab hotel offers 70 rooms exclusively for men, with each capsule unit measuring 1.2 meters by 1.2 meters and around 2.1 meters in depth. The devices installed in the capsules aim to monitor various aspects of sleep behavior, providing both guests and companies with valuable insights into sleep patterns and quality. This initiative not only focuses on improving the sleep environment for guests but also presents a unique opportunity for companies to utilize data-driven insights for product development and enhancement. Additionally, future plans for the project include the incorporation of a deep body temperature sensor developed by NTT and extending the program to cater to women, indicating a commitment to further enhancing the sleep experience through innovative technology and data analysis.
